The Future of Porn Many feel that the future of porn is bleak and that the industry is coming to an end. At this point in time, there is a very small "elite" within the porn industry that is unfairly making a disproportionate amount of money off of others within the industry who are not receiving fair compensation for the time, energy and efforts, but in time that will change. The notion that "Pirating" is killing the industry is not true, if anything the distribution of free content online has expanded the adult entertainment industry and increased profits. The "elite" making all the money in the porn industry (who ironically are the individuals who support the free venues such as tube sites) do not want the general public to know that (nor do they want the general public to realize how wealthy they have in actuality become). Any man or woman considering entering the porn industry at this point in time (especially as a talent), I suggest you read a recent blog post I've written entitled: "How Low Can I Go" - How pornstars may be paid in the near future. The state of our current economy is crap (or too put it nicely, not where it used to be), but guess what, that's because it's under the process of restructuring, and so is the porn industry. The future key players of the porn industry will be the people who think outside of the box. Porn has gone "downhill" not because of people pirating porn on the internet but because so much of what has been produced over the years has been the SAME REPETITIVE CONTENT. People are tired of seeing the same basic formulated scene (or mild variation of that scene) over and over again. It will be the CREATIVE, INNOVATIVE, TECH SAVVY, MOTIVATED, RISK TAKERS who rebuild the porn business. If you want to know the future of porn, then all you need to do is keep up with the porn industry trade magazines and websites like AVN.com and Xbiz.com For example, the live element of porn is an INCREASING market - now of course this aggravated many people in porn who run the pre-recorded content studios, because it put a tremendous amount of power into the hands of the performer. However as of recent the individuals who fund most of the "mainstream porn market" studios recently sank quite a bit of money into websites such as www.MyFreeCams.com . They created a new business model of which the viewer essentially is able to decide when and IF they pay the webcam model they are viewing, where as in the past it was the model who had the power to set her own price for a partial or nude show. Of course this is bad news for women like me who's bread and butter in the past DEPENDED on the old webcam network model, however I suppose times change... Here's another example: Considering that as of current (unless I'm just completely unaware), there is not one black contract star and there hasn't been since about a decade ago (Heather Hunter). This is a PRIME opportunity for a studio to sign one, or a few. Whichever major studio does it first will definitely be of note, and probably be received by the adult and mainstream media as VERY progressive - hence attracting even a wider fan base resulting in more sales. I wonder which studio it will be? Maybe it'll be a new one all together with an entire roster of ethnic stars that produces high end ethnic feature movies - now that would be cool. Studios like Hustler & All Media Play are cleaning up when it comes to the popularity of their content. They have won award after award. Why? Because essentially they began the "high-end porn parody" trend, which brought HUMOR back into porn. Unfortunately porn at this point has been far overly saturated with parodies (it's time for something new in a major way), and many of the parodies cross the line from humor to being completely disrespectful to the shows and people they're based on. The trend DID have a good run, but it has been just that - a trend. In addition, All Media Play doesn't seem to be afraid of casting African-Americans in their features considering the release of "Not the Cosbys XXX" (of which I starred in) and the casting of Misty Stone in their newest feature "Flight Attendants". African-Americans are FAR under-represented in adult films and truthfully, it's not due to lack of demand when it comes to the ethnic porn market - it's due to many of the people who pull the strings in the porn industry having issues with understanding that all ethnicities are equal. Digital Playground seems to be doing pretty well due their lack of fear when it comes to using special effects in their features such as "Pirates II". Furthermore their newest release "Body Heat" breaks the adult feature mold showcasing an original storyline (which sets them apart from the ever growing amount of porn parodies) executed with absolutely beautiful high-end cinematography. Adult industry mavericks such as Jules Jordan , are literally taking over. Jules thought outside the box enough to take a girl who had primarily shot Girl on Girl scenes for around 3 years, but was ready to expand her "performance menu", and cast her in her a little feature he directed called "Jenna Haze - Dark Side". This feature title turned out to be one of the best pornstar comeback features of all time (it won multiple awards). By the time Jules re-packaged and re-marketed Jenna Haze - he'd created one of the most popular pornstars as of current. Jules Jordan is a multi adult industry award winner and is the youngest man to be inducted into the XRCO hall of fame. Jules Jordan's roster of stars he regularly features in his movies and promotes has had an extra "boost" in their popularity and name recognition via the phenomenon of "tube sites". Tube sites such as redtube.com , pornhub.com and pornotube.com have been blamed for the financial loss to the porn industry, but I personally feel that if it were not for tube sites, much of the general public would not be as aware of adult content and adult actresses and actors. If you notice, the majority of the pornstars that Jules Jordan and Brazzers.com regularly feature and hire for scenes, are the same stars that are regularly posted in scenes on many of the free pornography tube sites. Lastly, I hope that in the near future, condom usage will be more common in porn scenes. With the current HIV and other STD risks that porn performers are being essentially forced to take, many studios hopefully will come realize that that the performer's health should be protected and valued much more so than as of current (yet another HIV "scare" has occurred 10-12-2010 as reported by AVN.com : http://business.avn.com/articles/Adult-Performer-Tests-HIV-415455.html ). Implementing condom use in scenes would also promote the concept of "Safe Sex" to the general public, which could assist in the porn industry being viewed as much more responsible and socially conscience than as of present. So in conclusion, the porn industry will be around for quite a while, all that is disappearing are the people in the porn industry who can't keep up or who are inflexible to change. If you're gonna be in it, be in it to win it. -MF |
