Your Money & Goals Before you read this section, read my blog posting: "How Low Can I Go" - How pornstars may be paid in the near future. OK, I'm probably the wrong person to write this section of this website, but then again maybe I'm the right person since I'm a good example of how NOT TO BE when it comes to your finances. I have never been good with money at all. Growing up my parents never taught me about money. I have always found ways to make it, but in the past I have been horrible when it's come to saving money (though I'm finally turning that around). I used to be a very impulsive shopper and I am clueless when it comes to investing. If I'd have saved just 30% of my earnings back when I was an exotic dancer I'd be in a much better financial position than I am today. Instead I was silly, and though I was making a killing, I didn't save any money at all. When I entered the porn industry, I'd anticipated making a lot more money than I have. Maybe I entered the industry at the wrong time, maybe I should have chosen different representation who could have booked me more work, maybe it has been due to my age, look and/or my ethnicity - who knows... I have actually found that I have consistently earned more money through my website (and will continue to in the long term), than I have performing in porn the porn industry shooting for studios. Yes the porn scenes I've been cast in were a nice financial "boost", but as of current, I've only been cast in about 35 scenes. I've heard that some women who enter the porn industry shoot porn scenes 10 to 25 days out of the month. Who these women are, I really don't know, and truthfully I don't think there are that many that really work that frequently nowdays. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. Very few people I've met in the porn industry have been full time porn performers. When you begin in the porn industry, have another source of income aside from being a porn performer. Even if you DO eventually find yourself working as a full time porn performer (and hey, you just might), realize that you can't shoot porn FOREVER and you won't be booked FOREVER so have a plan and goals. Make sure you create a plan as to what career you'd like to go into after you're done as a porn performer whether it be within or outside the adult entertainment industry. Set goals for yourself that you can work towards while you're working as a porn performer. Have savings goals, business goals and/or educational goals. At minimum, open a savings account and deposit 30% to 50% of each of your porn scene pay checks into it. If you are making a large amount of money, it's a good idea to find and talk to a professional financial planner. I strongly recommend the book: The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke by Suze Orman You don't want to get out of porn in worse financial shape than when you got in. It happens often, but that doesn't have to be you. Just have a plan, save a portion of your earnings, Build your SOLID Pre-Porn Foundation and set realistic goals. |
