Your Pre-Porn Situation
Where are you now, where do you want to be & who will you be affecting?

Remember, once you shoot a porn scene, you can never "take it back", and considering how widespread and EASILY distributed porn is on the internet now days, pretty much anyone has the potential of coming across any porn scene you participate in.

Take the time to consider the above, and then take the time to think about whether or not there's anyone in the world you DON'T want to know about what you're about to get into. If there's anyone that you're planning on hiding your "porn career" from, then porn is not for you, because most likely at some point that person (or people) will find out one way or another.

Family and Relationships

Working in the porn industry has the potential to destroy your personal relationships, especially you were not honest to those you love about your decision to get into porn. Hustler Magazine's publisher's Larry Flynt's motto on his Hustler store T-Shirts say "Relax, it's just sex", but I'll be the first to tell you that the act of sex can really screw up your love life and family life, and that's not something that's easy to relax over.

I suggest that if you are planning on getting into porn, be HONEST with your family (if you care about their opinion) about it. Be honest with any significant other you may have. If you have children and they're old enough to know about porn, be honest with them.

Someone (or multiple people) who know you and/or love you NEED TO KNOW about your career choice for your personal SAFETY and WELL BEING. There are people throughout the porn industry who will TARGET women who don't appear to have anyone in their lives and/or a support system.

Financial Situation

Before you get into porn, figure out if you can AFFORD to begin a career in the porn industry. Do you live close to where most of the porn studios are (Los Angeles or Miami), or will you have to travel to work? The last thing you want to do is go into debt, trying to create a porn career if you're already pretty broke (and most likely you are if you're considering a career in porn anyways).

If you don't have enough money on your own for a ticket to where the studios are, a place to stay once you get there, transportation, etc. I'd suggest you hold off until you do.

Once you begin performing in porn, in the long run you might find it more cost effective to relocate to the city you are primarily booking scenes in (most likely that will be Los Angeles, but possibly Miami).

Many agents and agencies will offer to "front you the money" for your travel out to where they are, and they may offer to put you up in a "model house" of which you will most likely be charged daily for, but this isn't always the best idea being that you might not find that you have as much work as they'd initially promised you. Many unexpected things could happen that could prevent you from working as you'd anticipated too (for example, you might contract Chlamydia - a curable STD, but an STD none the less - while shooting your first few scenes which could prevent you from fulfilling your shoot schedule for that particular trip - it happened to me).

There are many people (both male and female) who call themselves managers and agents, but who in reality are con-artists.  These con-artists actually have the goal of keeping their clients BROKE AND IN DEBT TO THEM. This is not a joke or opinion, it is a fact. This is essentially a form of slavery.

RESEARCH any agent you are considering working with before you sign with them. REAL AGENTS and SUCCESSFUL AGENCIES want their clients to become successful, because this adds to their good reputation, credibility and image. The last thing that a real agent or agency wants is for you to be in debt to them.

I've seen many women get into the porn world broke, and then get out in an an even worse financial position..

Present and Future Career Situation

Once you do a porn scene, you can never "undo" the scene. It is out there for anyone and everyone to see. If you have goals of being in a "mainstream" and "respectable" occupation in the future of any sort, porn may not be the best choice for you.

Though many people claim to be "open minded", in reality they are not and there are MANY employers out there who will not hire you (and who may possibly fire you) if they find out you've worked in the porn industry.

Very few people are full time porn performers. Have or attain a job to where if others "found out" about your porn career, it wouldn't matter while you're in the business. Also make sure you create a plan as to what career you'd like to go in after you're done as a porn performer whether it be within or outside the adult entertainment industry.
